1964 FORD MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE (1964 1/2) - SOLD!

1964 ½ Ford Mustang Convertible. March 26,1964 build date. Ford started building Mustangs March 19th. This car was originally sold in Fullerton, California and owned by that individual until 2007 when I purchased it from her. The car had 128,028 miles on it at that time. The car had been on blocks, in a garage first in Arizona and then in Granada Hills, California since 1989. The car had all the stock parts, but was not running. I stripped, bagged, labeled and stored all the parts, and had the car sandblasted for a clean start on a total restoration. 7 years later the car was finished to the condition a brand new Ford Mustang Convertible would have been when first purchased. I learned a lot about the very early Mustangs and stayed true to the history and correctness right down to the AM Radio that still resides and works in the dash. 50 years old and born again !! This is the car that started it all. Unquestionably one of the most important cars of the 20th century, that first Mustang started a revolution in transportation that still resonates today. The bodywork was expertly fitted and smoothed in preparation for the Rangoon Red paint. It’s not the car’s original color, but who can argue with the look? Beautiful chrome bumpers, the stock grille insert with four bars surrounding the corral, and 289 badges on the front fenders to signify the D code V8 that lives within. A flashy red interior was fitted and nobody’s going to argue that it doesn’t look fantastic. A classic combination that will never go out of style, almost every component inside this Mustang is brand new. Correct seat covers are stretched over factory bucket seats, there are new carpets on the floor and beautifully finished door panels look like they belong in a far more expensive car. Restored original seat belts that are unique and rare. A correct T-handle switch actuates the white power convertible top, which stows under a matching red boot, and a rare smaller T-handle topping off the automatic transmission shifter. As you’d expect, the trunk is outfitted with correct mat, spare tire with correct original tools. The car carries the original D-code 289 cubic inch V8 and C4 automatic transmission that have been rebuilt to perfection. Properly dressed with a black block and gold valve covers and air cleaner. The engine bay is correctly detailed with reproduction decals and even a washer bag on the inner fender. Power steering is a highly desired option, making this Mustang as user-friendly as the legend would suggest. There are no surprises under the car with new brakes, new dual exhaust system and a set of 3.00 gears in the 8 inch rear end, so it’s a fantastic cruiser. Classic spinner hub caps that are new originals out of a Ford box. For more than 50 years now, Americans have dreamed of owning a Mustang convertible. Fortunately, this is one car that lives up to the legend.

AutaBuy sold this car to a buyer overseas.
Original asking price was $45,950.
