2004 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe

Description:

2004 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe

In 1951 a group of Harley Earl's "Special Projects" crew began work on a GM sports car. Bob McLean designed a general layout for the car which was originally code named, "Opel". William Durant, the founder of GM, said a wallpaper pattern he saw in a Paris hotel in 1908 inspired the bow tie logo. Supposedly, he ripped off a small piece of it and brought it back to Detroit. Myron Scott, at the time, Chevrolet's Chief photographer, is credited with coming up with the Corvette name, drawing from the small, fast warships of the "Corvette" class.

For consignment, a 2004 Chevrolet Corvette coupe with a title verified 17,235 actual miles, a fair weathered beauty in black, adorned with some exterior accent pieces that set this apart from other black Vettes. This one will arrive to you with all maintenance receipts and records.

Exterior
Like a Manta Ray on a dark ocean floor, this Vette lurks in deep, black paint, its low, flat hood dipping under the waves while its mesh grille scooping up air like clouds of plankton. The air intake is covered with a Z06 mesh style grille while two more intake ports reside on the lower fascia. Twenty years later, the profile of this car is classically Corvette and at the same time, fresh and aerodynamic. A raked windshield flows to a flat glass roof which sheds wind over a sloping and rounded rear window. More Z06 accoutrements in the form of fender ducts on the rear quarter panel while in back, tail light louvers throw a striped pattern over the red ovals and the reverse lights, complementing the horizontal air splitter in the valance. On the front, the chromed five spoked wheels are 17-inch while things step up to 18-inch on back and both sides wear tires with a late 2020 date code. A dress up plate is flanked by the quad exhaust tips with center exit and the front fender duct begets black body trim that spears back to the door. Scuffs under the chin is the only imperfection we find on the exterior.

Interior
Molded plastic door panels lead to black leather, power adjustable, high back buckets embroidered with the "Corvette" name, showing some patina creases in the driver's side bottom but otherwise very nice. Sliding in will put you into a cockpit with a Delco AM/FM/CD player, dual zone electronic heat and A/C, cruise control, power locks and power windows. A bevy of gauges are in front of the leather wrapped steering wheel and monitor all engine functions. The automatic shifter resides in the center console dressed in a black leather boot and actuated with a thumb and wrapped in good quality black molded plastic. On the floor, black, low pile carpet is protected by Corvette carpeted mats and the cargo area is clean and covered with plush gray carpet.

Drivetrain
The standard 5.7L LS1 fuel injected 350hp V8 is nestled under the forward tipping hood. We note A/C, power steering and power brakes in this ultra clean engine bay where plastic covers are emblazoned with Corvette in bright red. A 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission sends power to a 2.59 geared rear axle and power disc brakes are the only thing worthy of handling this racing car for the street.

Undercarriage
Very clean, nothing but black painted steel, clean metal, and flat belly pans. Very sound with no rust or surface rust, clean knuckles and grease free wheel components. Independent SLA suspension with a transverse monoleaf spring provides the ride for front and rear. Factory dual exhaust with original mufflers is present and exits with 4 chrome tips under the center of the rear bumper.

Drive-Ability
Fuel injection does its job and the 345 horsepower V8 fires up with a healthy roar. Slide the shifter into D and off we ramble on a sea of blacktop where this streamlined coupe is most comfortable. Great power, solid tracking, and ungodly handling, everything a Vette is supposed to be. And with 17,000 miles, barely broken in. Only the fog lights aren't working on this sports car, everything else does. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Remember 2004? You wanted a black Vette but it was just out of reach. Maybe the kids were little, the mortgage had to be paid, and your boss was breathing down your neck. Well, the kids are adults. You're an empty nester and you're your own boss! It's time to get the Vette of your dreams. Or maybe you're the kid who was born in 2004 and wants a real, American sports car. For horsepower and performance, Corvettes still reign as bargain kings. Put your money on black, this one is ready for a new home!
