1967 Shelby GT500 For Sale - Ultra-Desirable Wimbledon White, Factory 4spd, Very Early Example
LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1967 Shelby GT500 As the muscle era was heating up, Chevrolet released the all new Camaro, which called for an upgrade to the Mustang to compete. As with before, Carroll Shelby was called upon to boost the Mustang's performance reputation. The slightly larger 1967 Mustang was the perfect platform to introduce big-block power, so the 428 CI Police Interceptor engine found its own home in the GT500. Rated at 355 HP, the Police Interceptor had the same performance camshaft that would later be used in the famed 428 Cobra Jet engine, and it employed dual inline Holley 600 CFM 4-barrel carburetors with progressive linkage and vacuum-actuated secondaries on an aluminum intake manifold. To some it’s the ultimate muscle car/grand tourer, and others love it for being the first Mustang to be powered by the 428, while many others just love it for the beautiful, powerful styling and legendary name associated with it. Whether a collector or enthusiast, and whatever the reasoning, there is no denying that they are one of the most iconic muscle cars of all time. As per the Shelby registry, this example was shipped new on 1/4/67 to Hemphill-McCombs Ford in San Antonio, Texas ordered new GT500 in Wimbledon White paint with a black décor interior, which remains one of the most sought-after and highly coveted color combinations. It was equipped from the factory with a 4-speed manual transmission, power steering and front disc brakes, the Interior Décor group, a fold-down rear seat and the Extra Cooling package. This Shelby GT500 has been restored in its factory-delivered Wimbledon White and looks incredible! The black knitted Décor interior matches the rest of this car for its impressive presentation, incorporating the wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel, roll bar with inertia reel harnesses, below-dash Stewart Warner oil and ammeter gauges, and 8,000 RPM tachometer that were all part of the Shelby GT treatment. Under the hood lies the 428 CI Police Interceptor engine with dual-four barrel carburetors, which has been rebuilt to stock specifications and is in excellent working order. Finishing the look of the engine is a litany of correct inspection markings and stickers. This Shelby GT500 is of course listed in the Shelby Registry and comes with documentation from Marti Auto Works. The body and paint shows spectacularly well and it is ready to be shown or enjoyed as part of a collection. Add to this the history of being an original Shelby GT500 and you have one of the most desirable and sought-after muscle cars of all time.
