The Plymouth was totally restyled for 1939, it was longer, lower, and wider, with headlamps now within the fenders. The 1940 cars' wheelbase was stretched 3 inches, in addition, the engine was moved 4 inches forward, so the passenger compartment increased in size with the seats now cradled inside the suspension, rather than over it. The glass area in the new bodies was also increased by 18%. The model lineup included the cheaper P9 Roadking, available in 2 door Coupe, 2 and 4 door Touring Sedan (trunk back) The upmarket P10 Deluxe offered a Convertible, Club Coupe, Business Coupe, 2 and 4 door Touring Sedans, Limousine, and Wagon. The Deluxe P10 models had chrome beltline molding running from the center of the car back to the deck lid, while Roadking models had chrome trim only from the center of the car to a point about halfway back on the hood.
