With the huge success of the Model T and Model A, Henry Ford knew he had to follow it up with something great. Instead of just updating the Model A in 1932 he introduced the world to the Model B and the Model 18. This marked an important milestone in automotive history as the Model 18 was the very first mass marketed affordable vehicle with a V8 motor. Ford clearly had a good idea because they were so popular the company couldn't even keep up with the demand. While the '32 is an iconic car it still had some resemblance to the Model A so in '33 they introduced another redesign with a longer wheel base, new frame, more rounded fenders, and slanted grill just to name a few features. This design would carry over into 1934 with only a few minor changes. When it comes to 1930's automobiles it is tough to ignore Ford because they have been the basis for some of the coolest classic and street rods on the road. This 1934 Ford 5 Window Coupe is an extremely nice car and was very well built. It is clear no corners were cut anywhere in the process. The body is all original Ford steel except for the running boards. They are also steel but are aftermarket. The car is entirely rust free and solid throughout. The paint is a beautiful Blue Jean Metallic combined with Tuxedo Black metallic fenders. It almost looks all Black at night but get it in the sun and that metallic Blue really comes to life. The chrome grill, original bowed bumpers, headlights, turn signals, taillights and window trim are nicely chromed with a beautiful shine. The car still has its original working cowl vent and pop out windshield. The HRBB (Boyd) custom wheels look great on it and are wrapped with BF Goodrich tires. It has 245/45ZR17s in the front and 255/45ZR18s in back.
Lift up the 4 piece louvered steel hood and you will find that this thing is still sporting a Flathead V8 like it would have originally. You see so many of these cars with the 350/350 combo nowadays that it makes ones with Ford motors really stand out among the pack. The engine has been entirely rebuilt and runs just as good as it looks. It has Offenhauser heads, an Offenhauser intake and dual Stromberg carburetors. The car starts right up, runs great and sounds great too through its fully powder coated dual exhaust system. The transmission is a 5 speed manual out of a Mustang and shifts smoothly to transfer power back to the Ford 9 inch rear end. The car sits on a boxed frame and the entire undercarriage is very cleanly done and finished out. The poly gas tank is mounted under the rear. The brakes have been upgraded to disc in front and it stops smoothly with no issues.
The interior was completed by Alton Starnes who has been doing upholstery work for years and is well known in the area. It is finished out in a Tan King Ranch leather and looks excellent. It has been very well cared for since being done so still looks brand new. It has dual bucket seats in place with lap belts. Weave carpeting covers the floors and is in great condition as well. Also on the floors is an emergency brake and floor shifter. The dash is painted in Blue to match the body and topped off with a set of beautiful after market gauges as well as the glove box. The gauges are analogue but do have Blue backlighting and a digital clock and odometer. The Ididit tilt column is nicely polished and features a Grant woodgrain steering wheel. The Vintage AC is a very unique feature on this car because it is actually routed behind the seats. It has a custom upper vent and lower vents mounted to the rear storage bench. This keeps the dash looking uncluttered and avoids having an underdash unit. Keeping with that theme the Custom Autosound stereo system is also hidden and controlled via a remote. The trunk has been nicely finished out as well in the same leather and weave carpeting.
This extremely cool 1934 Ford has a lot going for it and both looks and drives great. If you have been in the market for one definitely check it out because all original steel cars are getting harder and harder to find.
You couldn't build it for the asking price of $79,500.00!
