When the Honda Civic Type R first came to the U.S. two years ago, it carried a price tag of $34,775 . That price was pretty impressive, considering the athletic hatch packed lots of standard features and a 306-hp engine that made it the most powerful production Honda ever sold in the states. The price continued to rise slowly as the model progressed through the 2018 and 2019 model years. Now, still in model-year 2019, the price has jumped yet again to $37,230. CarsDirect reported the new price this week, and it is confirmed by Hondas Civic Type R configurator . The starting price is up $610 from the $36,620 MSRP Honda implemented on the 2019 model this January. When the 2019 model-year Civic Type R originally rolled out last November, complete with an improved infotainment system and other updates, it was priced at $36,595. Despite the price hike, the Civic Type R remains competitive in its segment. The 2019 Subaru WRX STI starts at $37,480, and the Volkswagen Golf R will run you $41,290. If youre looking for a more affordable hot hatch, consider the 2019 Hyundai Veloster N with the Performance Package , priced at $29,920. This modelwhich is front-drive like the Type Rmakes 275 hp. The Civic Type R is still well-equipped, with standard features including red and black sport seats with suede-effect fabric, LED headlights, a 12-speaker audio system, 20-inch black alloy wheels, rear spoiler, and 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
